Iolite Vaporizer Review

Overview:

The iolite vaporizer from Oglesby & Butler is a vaporizer that does what few others can. It provides the same quality of vapor that one might expect from a much larger, traditional AC powered unit without tying the user down with cords and anchoring them to outlets.

Weighing only a fraction of a pound and roughly the same size and appearance as your average mobile phone, the iolite is easy to take with you anywhere you go. This is largely because, unlike many other portable vaporizers, it does not require the use of batteries, torches, or lighters for operation. This means that, when you need to vaporize away from home, the unit itself is all that you need to take with you.

Using the Iolite:

Operation of the iolite is very basic and user-friendly. You just pull the mouthpiece off (the part that would be the antennae in the phone comparison), load the chamber located on the bottom of the mouthpiece with the substance that you wish to vaporize, and then place the mouthpiece and chamber back onto the iolite. Then flip the switch located near the bottom of the unit from '0' to '1' and press the button below it to start heating.

When the iolite begins heating, you will hear a slight hiss and see an orange light on the opposite side of the unit. This light will stay on until the iolite reaches its optimal vaporizing temperature, which usually takes about a minute. At this point, the heater will shut off and you can begin inhaling vapor from the mouthpiece.

If you are vaporizing herbal substances, it is recommended to first grind the herbs finely before loading them into the iolite. This will ensure the most effective and rapid vapor delivery, which is usually important when vaporizing on the go.

When you're finished using the iolite, toggle the switch back to “0” and allow the unit to cool down for a few minutes before packing away or cleaning.

How it works:

The iolite uses butane and a patented internal heating catalyst to bring the contents of the chamber to around 375F/190C, and a thermostat along with good insulation to maintain this temperature for as long as it is turned on. This means that, after the initial heat-up, the heater is not constantly running and using the butane. Every minute or so, the heater will turn on for a couple seconds to maintain its temperature, but it will mostly be sitting idle. With this efficient use of fuel, you can get up to 2 hours of usage out of the iolite per butane fill.

Re-filling the iolite with butane is as easy as refilling any butane lighter. Just insert the butane can's nozzle into the small, brass valve on the iolite and then push the can down and hold it until you see butane begin to come out around the valve and nozzle. This means that the iolite is full and the whole process should take less than 10 seconds.

Warranty and Extras:

The iolite comes with a 2 year warranty. If you have any issues with it, you can send it to the manufacturer and they will repair it for free. After the 2 year warranty, owners can still send their unit in for repairs, if needed, but for a nominal fee.

Aside from the unit itself, the iolite comes with a nice zip-up carrying pouch, spare mouthpieces, a metal cleaning tool, and well-presented manual and packaging.

The iolite beats many other portable vaporizers because of both the quality and quantity of vapor that it can deliver between refills. The flavor and consistency of the vapor that the iolite produces is very good because the thermostat effectively maintains a temperature that is both sufficient for vapor production and safe from any risk of combustion.
